Life In Words

 

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be the last tree in the forest?  Life in Words, written and compiled by Doreen's Creative Writing Group based in south west France, is a delightful collection of short stories and poems from subjects ranging from the abstract to the unusual through to the tales of everyday.  These pages are filled with love, desire, horror and humour.  In short, there is something for everyone and this anthology has only been possible through the encouragement and patience of Doreen Porter, to whom it is dedicated.

As a founder member of a small association for women in France,
Doreen was able to use her skills to start her Creative Writing Group. For several years, this group has met monthly and been tutored, encouraged and coerced into producing all types of writing - prose, fiction and non-fiction, and poetry in all its varied formats, undoubtedly inspired by her own, often very witty writing. Our efforts were sometimes good, sometimes not so good, but they were all of interest to Doreen and a revelation to the budding authors who hadn’t realised that they could actually write anything other than shopping lists. She even encouraged us to enter work for publication and was very proud when some of us found ourselves in print.

At the time of her sudden sad death, she was in the process of collecting
these writings into an anthology. It was only in the preliminary stages, but the members of the Creative Writing Group decided that they must
complete the task that was so close to her heart. So with little experience and after a steep learning curve, we have assembled this miscellany of writings. We sincerely hope that Doreen would have been pleased with our efforts, which we dedicate to her in fond memory and with thanks for all her patience, as she worked to make us as appreciative of the English language as she was.

 

All proceeds from the sale will go to one of Doreen’s favourite children’s charities, Room to Read. We hope you enjoy the book.
